Gemeindealpe Mitterbach

Panorama mountain above the Erlaufsee

The Gemeindealpe rises above Mitterbach, right by the Erlaufsee, to 1,626 metres. Two chairlifts take you up in just a few minutes. From the summit one of the finest panoramas in the whole region opens up – a 360° view across the surrounding mountains all the way to the Ötscher, the highest peak in the Mostviertel.

Winter: skiing for every ability

The ski area covers around 15.5 kilometres of slopes – roughly half easy and half intermediate, plus the steepest descent in Lower Austria. Variety is provided by:

• a freeride area for powder descents below the summit
• a snowpark and funslope for freestylers and snowboarders
• a speed track for those chasing a fast time
• a practice lift for beginners

Cross-country skiers will find around 13 km of classic trail and 8 km of skating track on the mountain. The Gemeindealpe is part of the ski association around Mariazell.

Summer: mountain carts & panorama trail

In summer the Gemeindealpe is an adventure mountain for the whole family. On mountain carts and monster scooters you race down the 4.6-kilometre scooter track from the middle station to Mitterbach. At the summit, the roughly 800-metre, easy-to-walk panorama circular trail leads once around the top and reveals the wide view. For a bite to eat, the Terzerhaus at 1,622 metres invites you in with its sun terrace and hearty cuisine.

Getting there from Mariazell

Mitterbach is only a few minutes' drive from Mariazell, right by the Erlaufsee. From our apartments, the Gemeindealpe is a comfortable day trip – in summer as in winter.
